Hôtel & Spa le Germain Charlevoix

Hotel is in a great location -- quiet and outside of town but restaurants and attractions are just seven minute walk away. We had a fantastic room with king bed and a glorious view of the farmland and the St. Laurent River. (The property has a working farm with produce and animals.) If you have time, walk through the farmland and a small forest to the river. We had breakfast one morning at the hotel and it was one of the best spreads we have run into in a long time. Also had a great halibut dinner in the hotel's more casual restaurant. Be sure to view the sculptures on the hotel grounds and the paintings outside the hotel restaurant. Only one hiccup -- there were no outlets for my CPAP machine near the bed. The desk crew quickly came up with an extension cord. We loved visiting Charlevoix and would definitely stay here again.

Very disappointing. Beautiful day, pool closed, can not even sit around the pool no compensation offered. Wanted to go there for so long! Service was mediocre Waited an eternity for our room Baie-St-Paul is beautiful but this hotel does not meet it’s reputation

What an unique experience here in BSP within h the Charlevoix region. Even though we were a couple, it is very family oriented and has a farm in the back and is a train station stop. Also walking distance to BSP town with restaurants and shops. The room was different than any other hotel room we’ve been to with a spa onsite. This was one of the factors that made us select this hotel. Room was clean, nice and bright and service at the hotel and restaurant were great! Would reco making dinner resos in BSP as it gets very busy. This location was a great anchor for us to explore Charlevoix!

This is not only a fabulous hotel, but an experience. We have been there so often we are known by name at the reception. But we never wrote a review because you just don’t review home. This is what this hotel is for us - a little piece of paradise. You have to love farmland and coziness, though. The hotel and its five buildings are modern, cosy and simply planted on farmland where animals are doing their job of entertaining families and feeding the crowd. The land is humbly worked so the restaurants can use them all year long. As soon as we get there we feel a calmness , a contentment that we rarely experience in our city life. Paradise! On this trip we brought our 3 grown up children. They shared a « dortoir », a room with 4 single beds and a bathroom. It was modern and clean camp for them. My husband and I had a room in another building. It is November and quite cold (-7 C). But beautiful sunshine, some snow on the ground, perfect day for a walk towards the river. A nice Nordic spa, a cocktail and a nice dinner finished a perfect day in Baie St-Paul.

Once again the best hotel experience - extremely attentive staff - they had set up all we need for mimosas in our room, complimentary, with a lovely card, because it was my friend's birthday. The most comfortable bedding and mattresses. Food is always on point. The staff and concierge service are amazing. I love the Charlevoix region and staying at Germain makes it feel like staying in a second home. My two teen/pre-teen daughters felt very comfortable roaming the grounds of the hotel on their own, doing the Easter egg hunt, while I skied one day. Small touches like maple taffy on snow, evening fire pits, make all the difference!

We had a room in the Le Clos building that faced the alpacas and highland steer. There are also sheep, chickens and bunnies. My wife thought I would balk because I'm not normally an animal lover but I have to admit to being utterly charmed by the alpacas. I've never watched them so closely for so long. Never mind that they're cute, they provided me with constant entertainment just watching them cavort for food. The Highland steers weren't bad either but all they seemed to do was eat. But onto the hotel and room. The hotel is very modern and I would say nicely designed. A lot of thought went into this place. What was odd is how little information we received when we checked in...almost non-existent. The front desk could not even provide a map of the grounds. We had to take a photo of it!! With these prices, I think they can afford to print up a few maps. Our room was just the right size and the fact that it had a back door looking out onto the animal paddock was a plus! My only complaint was that it was a little dark but I find myself saying that about 90% of the hotel rooms I stay in. It's ALWAYS too dark for my taste. The gym was a major disappointment. Way too small. When we visited, one guy was stretching on a mat and there was not room for anyone else. No kidding. With so much space on the grounds, management can do better. Countering that was the spa. Very nice. Great thermal baths, hot and cold plunge pools and a dry and wet sauna. No surprise I was so relaxed, I fell asleep. Well done. We only ate at the more casual restaurant and it was fine but nothing special. The bartender put in the wrong order for my pizza but fell all over himself apologizing. I appreciated that but a free drink would have been even better. Still, he manned up. I would totally return because I loved the relaxed atmosphere and the animals. It's a short walk to town where there are many restaurants if you don't want to eat on site. There is also a very fancy restaurant we did not eat at. The $26 all you can eat buffet breakfast was good but I've had better....not worth it. There is a small souvenir shop but you cannot buy essentials like toothpaste. Still the town is very close and walkable. Management can make this place so much better and I really liked it. Loved the heated pool and walking around the grounds.

My wife and I stayed at Le Germain Charlevoix for three nights in mid-June on the tenth leg of our Ontario and Quebec road trip. We arrived in the late afternoon having travelled by car from Quebec City. We received a warm welcome at reception and we had a useful introductory briefing about our hotel. We were in a standard room on the ground floor in a block called ‘Le Bergerie’ - we were half way down the corridor but away from the ice machine and the small gym - the promise of a quiet and peaceful room. The bedroom was reasonably sized and plenty big enough and well equipped for our short stay. There was a king sized bed provided with the standard duvet and pillows. It was a comfortable bed with a very supportive mattress and quality sheets. We did not like the fact that the bed was mounted on a raised plinth. This required care in the middle of the night when getting up - we felt it was an unnecessary design feature. The curtains did a good job in excluding the light from the windows which overlooked the main building of the complex. There was a safe in the room, together with a compact fridge. It was helpful to have a kettle with a range of hot drinks available as well as a coffee machine. We found the room to be rather warm, necessitating the lowering of the setting on the air conditioning so that we could sleep more comfortably. The air conditioning unit was mercifully quiet. The bathroom was quite roomy with a large shower enclosure with two shower heads. The water came out under high pressure. The multitude of towels were soft and thick. They were changed daily during our stay. There was a modest amount of storage for our clothes. The room was very quiet - for the most part we heard no sound whatsoever from adjacent rooms or from people walking passed our room along the corridor. We self-catered for breakfast, feeling the the ‘all-you-can-eat breakfast’ was not for us - especially as it was $26 per person. We ate once in the bistro restaurant on site - a bit too much like a works canteen for our taste. Catering on an industrial scale. We had a good time staying at the hotel - it was within walking distance of the main part of the town with plenty of choice as far as restaurants are concerned. There was a supermarket within a 5 minute drive - this is where we stocked up for our lunchtime picnics.

Was told there is no concierge service in the winter so my 83 year old mother had to lug all her luggage up to her room by herself, 43 steps up in total since there is no elevator. Not one person from the hotel offered to help her. She was told that the elevator was for VIP only after spending almost $300 a night for her room! My cousin tried to call her and the front desk told him there was no one under that name staying at the hotel?? The staff were completely rude to her and my daughter. They went to the spa and were treated so rude even though they were spending almost $800 their! They would not look at the booking emails on my daughter's phone, said they had to see paper copies which thank god I printed for my senior mother and made my daughter hike all the way back to the room even though they ended up not even needing them! I could go on and on about how poorly they were treated at this hotel, what a huge disappointment, we will never stay there again and do NOT recommend it at all. I thought it might be because they were English but my mom is from that village and is perfectly bilingual so that is not a reason.

We were here for maybe our fourth of fifth time to this area to ski Le Massif. With our 3 children under ten - just a great vacation place for those who ski and even those who don't. My wife doesn't, but was able to walk trails, walk to the St. Lawrence, visit the highland cows, and the town of Baie St. Paul. For the rest of us, the great Les Labors breakfast and then a quick meal at Bercail on premises were fantastic. Definitely get the included breakfast if you have an option. What makes the place great - the feel - yes, the spa, yes, but most importantly the people and the feeling of welcome. Great place.
