Macdonald Highlands Hotel

This hotel is poor in every aspect. In urgent need of s refurbishment specially in public areas. The breakfast experience was awful. 10 min wait to be sit down, run out of fruit and there were no bowls available for 10 minutes, floor dirty and sticky floor, coffee arrived when we were finishing breakfast and only guests with dogs could use the outside terrace.

Liked:- 1. Hotel is just in front of Aviemore railway station. Very easy to reach hotel. 2. Excellent place for kids enjoyment. Park, Swimming pool, Activity area, shopping and walking tracks. 3. Good Breakfast 4. Room cleaning staff available all times. Really appreciate their efforts. 5. Easy access to Tesco, Aldi and many other grocery shops along with local restaurants. 6. Hotel reception staff is really good, helping with all queries. Jack at reception was very polite and helped us on all our queries. Disliked · 1. Bit expensive but Macdonald providing all facilities so for good enjoyment, worth to spend some money. 2. Expected small fridge in room, just a suggestion for future

I arrived to find 3 hotels at the location and poorly signed in my opinion. After trying to check in to the wrong hotels twice, I eventually arrived at the correct one…third time lucky. I arrived at the reception at 14:50 only to be told that check isn’t until 16:00. Usually at most hotels, check-in is at 15:00 but to clarify, I went onto their website and true enough (I have a screenshot), it stated 15:00 which I showed to the receptionist who was a bit embarrassed. The room was tired and dated and offered no complimentary water which is always a shame. As a venue overall, I think calling this a resort is stretching it a bit! In the “All Day Food” part of their literature, it states that food in the Laggan bar area is served 12:00 to 16:30…hardly all day! Conversely, their website states 12: to 17:00. Full room servicing unavailable?

Such a disappointing experience. Booked up weeks before arriving and 2 days before arrival received an email changing my hotel to the Highland Hotel due to occupant rates. I paid £214 and could book the Highland for £164 that day, offered a £30 refund which I still haven't received. Then told can't eat in the hotel except for 5pm which is no use because everyone else had booked dinner in advance. We couldn't as we had been changed last minute. Manager wouldn't even come see us just all by phone. Eventually went to the room and literally 2 minutes later maintenance is at the door to fix the wires hanging out the radiator and said it needs replaced he will do it tommorow. Had to be moved rooms again and after calling the manager again offered a free drink. Simply not good enough the Highland hotel feels run down the elevator doesn't work and the general feel is worn out. To top it all off they decided to jackhammer the road infront of the hotel at 9am literally lost the will to complain by this point. Will never be back stayed in the Premier inn the night before and would rather pay half the price and go back there.

We recently stayed at the Macdonald Highland Hotel for two nights (checking in on Fri-30-Aug and checking out on Sun-01-Sept; room 2202 a “deluxe double” room). This trip was a special occasion for us as we were enjoying some quality time as a family of three before welcoming our second child — I’m currently 8 months pregnant. When booking, I mentioned my pregnancy and requested a “popular” room to contribute in making this special. (Despite the resort being like a ghost town, the room we were in was not just basic but subpar). While we rate it 10/10 for children with the array of facilities offered (and is the only reason we hope to return next year), I must express our disappointment with the quality of sleep we experienced during our stay. Being 8 months pregnant, sleep is already challenging, and unfortunately, the bed in our room was atrocious. The mattress was severely sunken in the centre, which exacerbated my existing pelvic girdle pain and left me in significant discomfort. The mattress was too hard, the sheets were torn and it has to be said, it was sadly the most uncomfortable bed I’ve slept in. As a result, I only managed about 4 hours of sleep the entire stay, and on the second night, my partner even ended up sleeping on the floor. Certainly not worth the £408 we paid for our stay — we expected much better. The general feel of the place is tired and in need of refreshing - particularly the rooms. There was mould around the bath / shower, the TV is Freeview with no channel guide and the sound wasn’t working on half of them … Not that we go to hotel’s to watch TV however, it’s nice to put on while family are getting ready / in the evening. I would have shared this feedback upon check-out, but since we were not asked about our experience, I felt it more appropriate to communicate this via a review. On a positive note, our daughter, despite a disturbed sleep the second night, had an enjoyable time. Like I said, the facilities for children were fabulous. We hope that if we return next year, we’ll be able to enjoy a more restful stay!

I booked via Priceline on 8/25. I never book non refundable but made a mistake and did so for this hotel. I called a couple days later to cancel and was told the hotel refused to refund me. I messaged hotel a couple times via website, no response. I called hotel directly on 9/1, the gentleman who answered could not help me. The are keeping my money and im not staying there. Seems to be poorly run. Sharing my experience to help others from making a similar mistake.
