The Avalon Hotel in Catalina Island

This is a lovely boutique hotel in the center of Avalon. The rooms have a new and fresh look, and a Craftsman design. They either overlook the patio or have a porch with a view of the bay. There is a rooftop patio as well, with a stunning view. In addition, the staff is wonderful. In particular I want to mention Evelyn and Corrina (sp?). They were on top of everything. They had answers to all our questions and were beyond personable. They arranged taxis. They recommended eateries and activities. Wish I could have stayed longer. I wonder how I could life in SoCal for 70 years and this was my first trip to the island. By the way, the weather can be pretty good in February, this is California after all. In February you kind of have the place to yourself. My highlight was dancing with my wife on the circular floor of the ballroom at the Avalon Casino. (It is not a gambling casino and there was no band.) But, it gave you feeling of being there in the Big Band era even though the music was only in our hearts. (O.K. That was a bit much.)

We loved this hotel! It is very nicely located and has so much charm! The staff is wonderful and very helpful. Evelyn is the best! She’s very knowledgeable and eager to help! She is truly a gem! Our room 302, was very nice, and our balcony was much larger than I expected, with a nice view of the mountain and partial ocean view.

best hotel on Catalina island loved it recommended to all my friends and associates. I will always come back here, and also the hotel is pet and family friendly as well, You will love it Marilyn Monroe sits on the beach here as well. I loved the closeness to the ocean, and the accessibility that the hotel provides not to mention the fabulous meals etc.

This property is the absolute BEST! From the friendly staff to the comfortable beds and detailed craftsmanship of the hotel, This hotel is a definite "Must Do" if you're visiting the island. Mere words can't describe the beauty, cleanliness, and great accommodations. This hotel 'is' part of the Catalina Island experience.

We found the Avalon a fantastic place to stay, with the location in the heart of Avalon. Room was great, with a nice view from the balcony. The Extras: robes, chairs, beach ,bag, towels, sea salt scrub, wine glasses and more were a nice touch. The roof top was gorgeous and nice way to have a bottle of wine. The continental breakfast was lovely and set up in the beautiful courtyard. All staff was super friendly and accommodating. I am unclear how my northeast life led us to Catalina Island, but happy we found the island and this gem of a hotel to stay.

Once you step through the doors, you are immediately in your own little world. It’s easy for resorts to feel too commercial, but the Avalon was a local-feeling getaway with many little nooks and crannies to explore. The grounds are well-kept and the service staff is top tier. When you’re ready to go out into the world, there are many other restaurants, bars, and shops in walking distance. Would stay here again in a heartbeat!
