Holiday Inn Express & Suites Athens

Have to review this hotel in the context that you are staying in Athens, TX which has one WalMart and a population of about 12,000. For a rural area this hotel is adequate. It is VERY OUTDATED. There is that old musky 80’s smell in the rooms and corridors. The walls are thin so you can hear your loud neighbors ALL OF THE TIME. Breakfast options are sad too. I have seen more options available at other HIEs. There is a dead plant that is in the dining area that also looks oh so sad cause it is DEAD. Seriously- who leaves a DEAD plant in a public area? It’s like NOBODY CARES!!!! There is old furniture in the parking lot. Why???? Overall the general feeling of this hotel and town screams “RURAL AMERICA!” The employees look sad except for the nice young lady that checked me in at 10pm. I have stayed at several HIE hotels and this is the most pitiful one…. But again, this is Athens. Next time if I am in the area I will opt for an Airbnb option or look for a B&B nearby. I suggest if your budget allows skip this place and find somewhere else to stay.

Hello everyone. Holiday Inn Express Athens and their employees are the most unprofessional people I have ever seen. My husband booked months ago. He shows up last night and they checked him into a room. Only for him to get to the assigned room and it is out of order. He went back downstairs to get a new room and was told that every room in the hotel was booked. So he is away from home and hotels are limited in this area. They did not provide any resolution, so he had to locate a hotel by driving through town. Alexis at the front desk told him that it was refunded, I contacted Guest services and it was not refunded and she had to wait until her General Manager Samantha came in. When I spoke to Alexis she said that she did not know Samantha’s boss’s name, that she had only been there 2 weeks, she did not receive orientation and that she was alone in the hotel. I created a ticket and was assured that Samantha would be calling. Well she hasn’t SHOCKER! So I guess not only does the hotel need additional training but make sure you call and check to make sure a room is available. I will provide an update IF they call but I wouldn’t hold your breath! As noted in the title, my room showed plenty of wear and tear in the bathroom, stained upholstery on the furniture, and the walls and trim. That being said, the room was clean. The front desk and other staff were exceptionally positive and the breakfast was above average. But, those things cannot overcome the overall quality of the room experience. Time for a refresh.
