I recently had the privilege of staying at Osiligilai Lodge with family and friends, for three days and two nights, and was blown away by the hospitality, the the comfort, and the cultural "touch" of this eco-lodge. I was told about Osiligilai by a friend of mine over a year ago and was determined that if I someday returned to the continent, I would try to stay at this unique, one of a kind lodging experience. My group was not disappointed! We arrived with eleven of us in tow, and the young people running the lodge were most gracious hosts. Upon arriving we were greeted with a chorus of singing and dancing in the traditional Maasai way, and then treated to delicious lunch. During our stay there, we were taken on a walk to visit local people to understand their culture, taught about some of the flora and fauna of the area - and what they may be used for, and even shown the proper way to throw a spear for hunting. In addition, some traveled to Mt Kilimanjaro Nat'l Park, and enjoyed a hike along one of the routes that goes to the peak. In addition to the unique cultural experience, the rooms were quite comfortable, the scenery magnificent, and the food was very good. I would recommend anyone who is interested in truly learning about the Maasai specifically and Tanzania in general, to take the once in a lifetime opportunity to stay at Osiligilai. You won't be disappointed!
