Nice cosy pub with an excellent atmosphere comfortable rooms and excellent breakfast landlord very helpful, could not wish for more has a great choice of beers and wines it is located in the centre of Allendale which is a lovely village and parking is not a problem

This pub is an absolute hidden gem!!! The atmosphere, beer, welcome, food and local amenities was all faultless. Phil and his staff couldn’t be more welcoming and I can’t wait to visit again!! The pub has a fantastic open fire for cold evenings, a great selection of beers, great food and just an all round superb vibe! The village is lovely with excellent walks from the pub itself. There is a post office with cash machine, Co-op store and traditional butchers all within a hundred yards. There’s literally everything here you could ever need including a quoits pitch in the rear beer garden! Yes quoits! A local team still play from there! The rooms were spacious and very clean!

Visited the kingshead on a cold March night, we was greeted with a big cosy fire, friendly staff & great food & drink was had by all, a good nights sleep & was great to wake upto a night big breakfast, endless toast, tea & coffee. We will definitely be returning! Thanks Paul

Very disappointing service. We arrived at the hotel at 19:20 hrs to be told that the kitchen closed at 20:00 hrs and was now closed..... (40 minutes before closing in my calculations), then we got told they had run out of food, run out of Cooks ,also that the cook had gone home early as was unwell. I felt we were being taken a lend of. We were staying in thexarea for several days and did nit return to this place.

Great find of a country pub outstanding Sunday lunch in a warm friendly atmosphere.The food was cooked to perfection piping hot and great portions everyone left full and will definitely be back.The landlord and staff couldn’t do more for us and were very friendly and welcoming.

This is a family run village inn . Its very homely . They keep there beer very well and are very friendly. The food is all homemade and of a good quality very tasty. There isn’t a vast menu choice but what we had was lovely. Sunday lunch I had pork my husband beef it was excellent even had homemade Yorkshire’s and cauliflower cheese the gravy definitely wasn’t granules. The breakfast was really delicious cereals strawberries freshly cooked croissants and the English Breakfast was really good. They could improve there menu boards so you know whats on offer with prices. The family particularly the Mum her two daughters and a partner are trying really hard [under difficult conditions] limited staff availability in the area etc to make it a good business it was good value for money. I hope to see them again.
