Hotel Boutique Calas de Alicante

I stayed at the hotel two and a half weeks while I looked for a permanent location in Alicante. I'd just moved to Spain with my family and large dog (german shepherd), and they were very accommodating and nice. The hotel itself is very nice, I got a room with a pool view and a small balcony, which was where the dog kennel was kept. The room was a bit tiny, but us 2 and the dog were pretty comfy. We were allowed to have breakfast with the dog in an outside dining area as well. I actually went back after my original stay for a two-day stay, and was again very happy :)

They just cancelled my booking 2 days before checking in, despite I‘ve booked it and PAID few months ago! They call it „sorry overbooking“. How come?! How is it even possible! Don’t recommend relying on the hotel definitely! -------------

Fabulous hotel, very clean, quick and efficient staff eg support with setting safe code, providing kettle which wasn’t in the room. We did have to change room after one night at hotels request but compensation provided with free evening meal and 2 for 1 drinks voucher. Room move was hassle free to the ground floor room next door. Very quiet non touristy hotel with plenty of available sun loungers. Lovely pool. Would highly recommend for a short quiet break in the sun if you are not looking for local entertainment.

Great hotel overall. We went on a half board, both the breakfast and dinner were great with plenty of options. The hotel is clean and maintained very well. The location is perfect for walking to a nearby beach or close bus stations for trips to the city centre or other beaches. The hotel is fairly quiet but the rooms facing the main road will be a bit noisier but not to a level that you cannot sleep. The AC in the room is quiet and does a very good job. The rooms are modern and clean. The shower is amazing! The staff were all friendly and there was an understandable language barrier but we were not bothered by that. During our stay, there were more Spanish people so the language barrier is understandable. We mostly went to San Juan beach. It is an enormous beach with plenty of space. Even though we went in July, the beach was not busy/full to the point it became claustrophobic like other beaches. You can rent out beach chairs and beach chairs with umbrellas at a reasonable cost. It is cheaper if you buy for 7+ days. The buses are often, clean and air-conditioned. If you pay in the bus cash or card, the cost is €1.50 per person regardless of your stop. There are bus passes you can buy where the cost is, I think, €8.90 for 10 trips. If we ever come back to Alicante, we would definitely stay at this hotel again. Very good price for a nice place with buffet breakfast included. Clean with comfortable beds. Just near the beach. The only problem was that balcony doors do not shout properly, and are not soundproof. Good connection to centre of Alicante.

Nice enough room. No extras. Expensive for what is on offer. Food is mediocre at best. We preferred to eat out in the end. A very surly bar waiter. Dining room is very basic and always VERY cold. People were taking their food back to their room to eat. The only redeeming feature is the two VERY nice girls on reception who are extremely helpful. We felt very sorry for them. They are overworked and look shattered. I doubt if they will stay for long. There is nothing nearby - no shops, bars or restaurants. Fortunately, the bus is only €1.45 to get into Alicante itself where we spent all of our time in the end. It cost us £1000 for 4 nights half board.. A total rip off. Never again.
